~32 Years of Service~
I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW…..
I’m assuming that pretty much everyone reading this would go to an eye doctor if their vision slowly became hazy, right? It would be not only a nuisance but also, (more importantly), a danger to you and those around you. It is no different with your vehicle and its headlights. The headlights enable you to see when you drive at night and they should be treated as such. If I told you that one of your tires is bald and in danger of a blowout, you would be concerned, would you not? Does not being able to see clearly at night concern you? I should think so. While ‘headlight polishing’ may sound like a cosmetic issue more than a safety one, it is not. Hazy headlights are a danger to you, others on the road, animals and pedestrians alike. Accidents prove to be far more costly than our service. The process is a simple yet thorough one. The technician begins by sanding off a thin top layer of the lens then buff and polish the headlight assemblies. So, do the responsible thing and have them polished at Active Autowerke, it only takes an hour and the effects are long lasting. You will be happily surprised at how much of a difference it makes!! Buckle up!!
YOU NEED A COOLANT FLUSH – FACT OR FALLACY?
Well, that depends. To maintain your vehicle's cooling system, coolant should be flushed every 5 years. Unsure? You can tell if it's been too long if the coolant is brown in color and smells of fish. That is not to say that it may not be needed more often. Sometimes coolant can become contaminated with oil or debris. Oftentimes, when coolant is low, people tend to replace lost coolant with water instead of the proper 50/50 mixture.
If contaminated with oil, coolant will appear either oily or milky. If the coolant is slightly oily, it needs flushed immediately. This is because rubber is degraded by oil and coolant flows through rubber hoses. This can cause hose damage as seen in the accompanying image. If the coolant is milky, chances are you have bigger fish to fry than performing a coolant flush. Milky coolant signifies a substantial amount of oil mixing into the coolant, which means the head gasket is probably blown. The cost of repairing this (or replacing the engine) is thousands of dollars. By having your vehicle maintained with regularity, you have a higher chance of catching an oil leak early on, or having milky coolant discovered before your vehicle leaves you stranded or worse.
If your coolant is laden with debris, it needs to be flushed. The debris can come in a variety of forms. The problem with even a small amount of debris is that it can get stuck in the radiator, damaging it internally. The debris has the ability to clog, which builds pressure and can cause cracking, especially in older plastic radiators.
Finally, aside from elderly coolant being disturbingly stinky, it loses its protective abilities over time. Coolant is meant to raise the boiling temperature of water (or lower the freezing point for those of you Northerners), it contains a rust inhibitor and has lubrication properties that aide in the proper functioning of the water pump. Old coolant can cause a wide range of damaging issues with the cooling system and engine. Coolant flushes are under $100 and are a good way to ensure less costly repairs down the line.
AND THE WHEELS ON THE CAR GO …..
Do you hear a roaring sound when you drive but last you checked Simba wasn’t your passenger? If you blindfolded someone and placed him or her in your backseat – would they think perhaps they were on some shoddy ride at the county fair? If so, it sounds to me like your tires are ‘cupping’ due to severely worn shocks and/or struts. Take a gander at your tires – do they look like the image below? ‘Cupped’ or ‘choppy’ tires are uneven from tread to tread. This will ruin tires prematurely and cost you more often than needed. Now if you are thinking, ‘My tires don’t look like that – I am not in need of new shocks or struts’ – think again! At 50K+ shocks have lived a long, full life and are ready for retirement – it’s not very nice to make the elderly work that hard! So do your vehicle a favor and let Active Autowerke inspect your tires/struts/shocks, it only takes a few minutes and it’s FREE and painless! Everyone loves things that are free and painless. Buckle up!
